Be careful: did you know that there are significant differences in the available disinfectants?   

There are probably differences between hand disinfection and surface disinfection, but there again there are different products, product properties and application methods.   

Let's start with hand disinfection:

Hand disinfection is probably the best known type of disinfection. Whether in the supermarket, in the hospital, at home or quickly on the road, everywhere offers the opportunity to disinfect the hands in just a few seconds.   

Not only before eating, but also after contact with sanitary facilities, contact with other people or contact with surfaces which are heavily contaminated with viruses, bacteria or fungi, one should thoroughly perform hand disinfection.  

When performing hand disinfection, make sure that hands are clean and dry. In addition, the hands should be free of coarse dirt. Because a disinfection is not a cleaning! This can be done simply by means of classic hand cleaning. If the hands are now clean, hands and finger areas can be thoroughly treated with the disinfectant. This should always be applied undiluted. Particular attention should be paid to the fingertips, the skin along the fingernails and between the fingers. These are the areas that are usually neglected and therefore there is a risk that bacteria and viruses will not be eliminated.   

What are the differences in hand sanitizers?   

Hand sanitizers come in different shapes, sizes, colors and properties.   

Let's start with the bottle sizes. Available in the convenient 100ml pack, these are perfect for on the go, in the car, in your pocket or in the office. Due to the small pocket size, this bottle can be stowed away very easily and is again very quickly ready for use and at hand.   

If the 100ml bottle is not enough, you can gladly fall back on the250 or 500ml bottle. This is also very easy to handle and can be positioned very easily despite its large product volume, whether on a countertop, in the sanitary area or in the medical field.   

Do you need more? For example, you can fall back on the 1000ml bottle.  

But there are differences not only in the bottle format, but also in the form of the product.   

Liquid or gel?   

The liquid form has the advantage that it is easier to get to the tight spots on the hand and the product evaporates faster, meaning the hand is dry again faster. A disadvantage is that the product drips off the hands faster.  

The gel does not have this disadvantage, the property of the gel prevents that the product does not drip off so quickly. Due to the slow drying of the product, the application time is much longer. Thus, the gel can be processed longer on the hand.   

In addition, wet wipes are ideally available for on the go. This alternative is dosed with the disinfectant so that you always have a perfect concentration available. It is sufficient to treat the hand parts, fingers as well as fingertips thoroughly with the wet wipe. An advantage is that this method does not cause dripping of the product. However, the ecological aspect is a disadvantage, as there is waste after each use.

What about surface disinfection?

Surfaces should not only be cleaned regularly, but also disinfected.   

It is enough to take a quick look around. Bacteria, viruses or fungi settle everywhere on all surfaces, be it work surfaces, furniture, electronic devices such as telephones or keyboards. If viruses and bacteria repeatedly settle on unprotected surfaces, there is a risk that other, even new, species will accumulate. To limit transmission, regular surface disinfection is advisable.   

But beware! Not every product is the same.  

Thus, special attention must be paid to the material of the surface to be treated. There are natural materials such as wood or textile, which tend to absorb the disinfectant or other liquids. If, in addition, a non-coordinated agent is used, this can lead to undesirable reactions on the surface and material and show changes in the properties, such as color or strength.  

However, it is also important to consider the area of application. For example, there are products which are especially suitable for the food industry. In addition, disinfectants are available that are ideal for use on washable surfaces. These would be, among other things, tiles, plastic floors, stainless steel or hard plastic.  

Liquid or foam?   

When choosing the right disinfectant for surfaces, there are also differences in terms of the property of the product. Not only the liquid form is available, but also the spray-foam variant. In addition, there are still granules or bags of liquid agent, which must be mixed with water, thus obtaining an ideal dosage.  

The foam spray is ideal for hard surfaces such as stainless steel, hard PVC or tiles.  Due to the foam property, the processing time and the exposure time are significantly increased compared to the liquid alternative.  

In addition, ready-dosed wet wipes can be used for surfaces. These are usually available in so-called flowpacks, cans or buckets. These have the advantage that the agent has an ideal dosage. Another advantage of wet wipes is that the product does not drip off as quickly and can penetrate small openings on equipment or in textile fabric.  

To disinfect larger surfaces, such as floors or walls, you can use dosing bags. Here the product is dosed in liquid form or as granules in bags and it is sufficient to mix the bag with a certain amount of water according to the manufacturer's instructions. Once this step has been completed, the product can be taken up with a cleaning device such as a cloth or mop and applied to the surface to be treated and thoroughly distributed. In this way, larger areas can be treated easily and conveniently.

How about dispensers?

To further increase your satisfaction with the product, a suitable dispenser system can be used.   

Almost all liquid or gel disinfectants can be positioned in practical dispensers. These can be attached to a wall or furniture. But such dispensers can also be ideally placed in the entrance area of offices or stores. For this purpose, it is sufficient to mount the dispenser on a so-called disinfection column. To prevent dripping of the product, a drip tray can be attached to the dispenser without any further installation effort.
